Mary Stewart Nelson is the Managing Member of the Birmingham law firm Fish Nelson & Holden, LLC. Nelson’s expertise focuses on corporate law, contracts, general litigation, insurance, mediation, and real property law. Nelson leads the law firm’s Real Property division which handles residential and commercial real estate closings, landlord/tenant issues, and homeowners associations. Nelson also leads the law firm’s Mediation Center, as a civil and appellate mediator on the State Roster for the Alabama Center of Dispute Resolution. Nelson is admitted to practice in the State of Alabama and in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama.

Nelson received her Juris Doctor from The University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Nelson was a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board and was on an award-winning moot court team. She has also been published in the Law & Psychology Review and served as a managing editor on that law journal. Ms. Nelson was also inducted into the Bench & Bar honor society.

Prior to law school, Nelson attended Birmingham-Southern College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts with a Distinction in Leadership Studies. While at Birmingham-Southern, she was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega honor societies.

Currently, Nelson is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and Birmingham Bar Association. Nelson has also served on the Membership Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association and volunteers at the Jefferson County District Court Mediation Program. Ms. Nelson currently resides with her husband and three dogs in Cahaba Heights, where she enjoys travel, college football, and participating in triathlons.
